"No Kings" Means So Much More...
Our society is at risk, and I don't mean just the idea of fascism, but the treatment of human beings with the dignity that they deserve. No Kings is way more than just a political message...
I’m going to start with a bit of an aside, but we’ll get to No Kings, I promise.
If you listen to our podcast, then you may have heard a few things that we’ve pointed out recently about racism, misogyny, and anti-LBGTQ+ that rode along as subtext, and sometimes really loud overt TEXT, of Donald Trump leading up to and during the election. What we said was that if you voted for Donald Trump, you had to at a minimum excuse these things, because hate-filled words flowed out of him at nearly every speech he gave leading up to the 2024 election (and the 2016 election…and the 2020 election). What we said kind of amounts to this: if you’re shocked that he’s doing what he said he would do, then either 1) you weren’t paying attention, or 2) you’re lying to others, and maybe yourself.
After 3 presidential election campaigns in a row, and nearly wall-to-wall coverage during the first and second ones, it’s nearly impossible to say that you didn’t know what he’s about by the time the second and especially the third election rolled around. And, also, many people, likely a majority of people, who voted for Trump in 2024 were his prior voters. In fact, eighty-five percent of voters in 2024 were prior Trump voters. So they knew exactly what they were voting for.
Those 85% were not confused or lost.
What we’re learning about the Republican Party lately is supporting our arguments more. You might have noticed that a Young Republican group chat was leaked in which Members supported Nazi propaganda and shared it around, including direct support for Hitler and references to killing opponents in gas chambers. Or maybe you heard about the Republican staff member who had a Nazi flag on his wall during a Zoom call. Or perhaps you picked up on the almost direct quoting of Joseph Goebbels by Stephen Miller at the “Charlie Kirk Memorial” service. Or, maybe it’s the consistent parade of Republicans who turn out to be child predators (a keystone in a misogynistic society for obvious reasons).
So you can see, there are plenty of reasons that we have for saying what we say on our podcast. I don’t know if it’s because they’ve leaned so hard into the culture wars in a way that Democrats and Independents never did that they have created this mess for themselves, but the culture of the Republican Party is clearly toxic and dangerous. Aligning with that party, at this point, for anyone, including the overwhelmingly white men who vote for it, is a tragic mistake—rather, a tragic decision.
It’s no wonder to us that when you look at things like the sexist rabbit hole that draws young men into misogyny, often perpetuated through video game chats and radicalizing young men through YouTube algorithms (not just YouTube…), it’s clear why young men radicalized in this way end up in a culture where they can be as misogynistic as they want to be. Who wouldn’t want to be told that their beliefs are real, and that they are the REALLY BIG MAN, and women and minorities should be bowing to them and subservient.
This mentality doesn’t jive with equality. The Declaration of Independence…remember that?…goes like this:
We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal…
We’ve spent two centuries clarifying that “all men” really means “all people”, which is obvious if you’ve ever actually read the Constitution. We’ve spent that time being more specific through our amendments because there have always been those among us who would disenfranchise others. This undercurrent was inevitable for a country that created a government that supported minority rule to gain buy-in from slaveowners. How could someone who owns slaves be of any other mindset than that there exist people who are “less than” they are?
And this idea has been perpetuated by Christianity for ages in the deep recesses of our country, where the light rarely shines. There are entire communities for whom it is a foregone conclusion that anyone other than of “European descent” does not deserve equality and is being punished by god…blah, blah. It’s a thing, and it’s not just a handful of folks, folks.
So when people tell you that they voted for Trump, ask them why. Don’t let them get away with pretending not to have understood what he’s about. Economic arguments don’t hold water, and at the very least, they knew what he was and what he would do, and didn’t care enough to stop him. That’s the bullet point here.
So when we go to celebrate No Kings, remember that there are millions of Americans out there who would love to have a king, because that enforces the misogynist, sexist, racist culture and means they can continue to be self-centered assholes. What was it that Virginia Guffrie said about Prince Andrew? Oh, yeah. That he felt “entitled - as if he believed having sex with me was his birthright.” This is what the red-pill/black-pill stuff does to our young men. And this is the reason that when we say No Kings, we’re saying a whole lot more than just No Kings.
We’re claiming a cultural identity more true to the American people’s view of equality than anything being ‘pilled’.
See you in the streets!
