There was something of a minor celebration this last week in Texas. Kristi Noem handed out ten-thousand-dollar checks to air traffic controllers. It’s a reward or bonus for working without pay during the Republican-imposed shutdown. Also, it’s a sign of loyalty to win them over to the Trump side. But it won’t work.
Why?
Because for the entire duration of the shutdown, some air traffic controllers had to take second jobs to feed their families. They’re not going to forget who it was that put them in that position, or who wouldn’t pay for them and forced them to show up anyway. It’s too little, too late to save face with the people who have been wronged.
But it wasn’t just you, Congressional Republicans. We’re not in a cult. We can see when we’re being wronged, and there are decades of blame to go around. Come. Let’s discuss.
